On Christmas morning, the Grade 1 students at BIS are very excited. They are ready to go to the local concert hall for the Christmas concert.

But when they arrive, a doorman stops them at the door. They do not have tickets or money, so they cannot go inside.

The students are disappointed, but they do not give up. They decide to make their own Christmas concert!

Their teacher gives them a special glowing cross. She tells them, “This cross will shine when your hearts are full of true gratitude and when you worship God with all your heart.”

The children are excited. They really want to make the cross shine!

They start singing loudly, dancing with big moves, and planning exciting performances. But then, a funny and mischievous character called The Distractor appears.

The Distractor brings shiny things and tells the children, “Look at me! Be the best singer! Be the best dancer! Make everyone look at YOU!”

The children begin competing with each other. They try to sing louder, dance bigger, and show off more than everyone else.

But something is wrong.

The cross does not light up.

The teacher comes back and gently asks the children to think about what they have been doing.

The children realize that they have been thinking more about themselves than about God. They wanted people to clap for them and tell them how great they were.

The teacher reminds them that true worship is not about being the best or getting attention. Worship is about giving our hearts to God

(G1 Sleep)
1.  Narrator Rosie: Early in the morning, the BIS Grade 1 students awoke to the sound of Christmas carols.

6.  Everyone:  Wow~~!! So many presents!
우와!!! 이 많은 선물들 좀 봐!
 

7.  Everyone:  I love Christmas Day~!
나는 크리스마스가 너무너무 좋아!

9.  Yuri: Let’s go out and have fun today!
어서 나가서 즐거운 시간을 가지자!

10. Woojin: Yes! But where should we go?
좋아!  근데 어디를 가면 좋을까?

11. Everyone:  To the concert hall!
콘서트를 구경하러 가야지!

 
12.  Henry:  Christmas isn’t complete without a concert!
크리스마스에 콘서트를 빼면 그건 크리스마스가 아니지!

13. Everyone: To the concert hall~~! Let’s go!
그래~ 콘서트홀로 떠나자!

15. San and Rosie:  They arrived at a beautiful concerthall.

16. Woojin:   Just as they were about to enter…

They were STOPPED!

by a doorman.
바로 티켓 아저씨였죠.

17.  Doorman Henry:  "Wait a minute!"
잠깐! 거기 멈춰! 

18.  Everyone:   “Yes, Sir~?”
네에~~

19.  Doorman Henry: You need a ticket
티켓이 필요해.

20.  Everyone: A what?! / 뭐요?

21.  Doorman  Henry: A ticket! / 티켓!

22.  Everyone: But we do not have any money…
하지만, 우리는 돈이 없는걸요~

23.  Doorman Henry: Then you cannot come in!
그럼 못들어가!

24.  Everyone: Oh no~!   / 어머나!

25.  Ezra:  The Grade 1s were sad.
1학년들은 너무 슬펐어요...
Inside, beautiful music played…
안에서는 아름다운 음악이 어렴풋 흘러나왔죠.

26.  Jian: I think the concert is over...
얘들아, 콘서트가 끝났나봐...

27. Kai:  What? Over already?
뭐?!  벌써?

28.  Rosie: No Christmas concert for us?
우린 진정 크리스마스 콘서트를 못 구경하는것이야?

29.  Everyone: Oh no~!
이럴 순 없어!~~~

31. San and Rosie: But they did not stay sad.
하지만, 이들은 계속 슬퍼하고 있지는 않았어요.

They decided to put on a concert of their own.

32. Arina: Hey, let’s put on our own concert!

35. Everyone: Great idea!  좋은 생각이야!

36. Henry: Let’s go ask our Ms. Reyes how we can do this.

선생님들께 어떻게 하면 좋을지 여쭤보자.

37. Everyone: Let’s do that!

그래, 그러자!

38. Everyone: Ms. Reyes~! 

39. Rosie: Ms. Reyes, what should we do? We want to put on our own concert—one that will really, really please God!

Ms. Reyes, 어떻게 하면 좋을까요? 하나님께서 정말, 정말 기뻐하실 만한 우리만의 콘서트를 하고 싶어요!

40. Teacher: Don’t worry, Grade 1! Look here—I have a special gift for you: the Cross!

걱정하지 마, 1학년! 이것을 보렴. 너희를 위해 특별한 선물을 준비했단다. 바로 십자가란다!

(Teacher places a glowing star prop on the stage.)

41. Teacher: This special cross has a secret power. It glows brightly whenever your hearts are filled with true grateful heart and you give true worship to God!

이 특별한 십자가에는 특별한 힘이 있단다. 너희의 마음이 진정한 감사함으로 가득하고 하나님께 진정한 예배를 드릴 때마다, 십자가가 환하게 빛난단다!

(Teacher steps offstage and watches.)

42. Ezra: Awesome! Let’s start our concert and praise God!

와, 멋지다! 그럼 우리 콘서트를 시작하고 하나님을 찬양하자!

43. Arina:  Wait! We need to make it really, really special!

44. Ezra:  Yes! We need amazing music!

45. Jian:  And awesome dancing!

46. Yuri:  And maybe some really cool costumes!

47. Woojin & Ezra:  I want to do the biggest dance!

48. Rosie, Yuri, Arina:  And I want to sing the loudest!

(The students excitedly begin preparing. Some pretend to practice singing, some dance, some arrange imaginary instruments.)

(Yuri, Arina, Rosie = Towards the end of the dance=> Leave the stage and put on the black halo and scarf)

(At the end, everyone strikes a dramatic pose.)

(They look at the cross.)

50. Rosie:  Look! Is it lighting up?

(Everyone waits.)

51.  BOYS ALL:  ...Nothing?  (The cross stays dark.)

52.  Everyone:  Hmm...

53.  Arina, Henry:  Maybe we weren't loud enough!

Everyone: Let's try again!

We have to make the best SHOW!

(A cheerful, mischievous character sneaks onto the stage. The Distractor carries or wears something shiny—perhaps a giant sparkly star, glittery sunglasses, or a bag of colorful props.)

54.  Distractor  Rosie:  Did somebody say... SHOW?!

55.  Everyone:  Who are you?

56.  Distractor Yuri:  Us? We the Distractor!  (Big playful pose.)

57.  Distractor Arina:  And I know exactly how to make your concert AMAZING!

58.  Everyone:  Really?

59.  Distractor ALL:  Of course!

(Distractor pulls out a shiny object.)

60.  Distractor Yuri:  Look at this!

(The students gasp and gather around.)

61.  Distractor Rosie:  Wouldn't this look AMAZING on stage?

62.  Everyone:  Wow!

63.  Distractor Yuri:  And look at this!  (Another shiny prop.)

64.  Everyone:  Whoa!

(The children become increasingly distracted.)

65.  Distractor Arina:
Forget the boring old cross. Look at all these cool things!

(The children begin playing with the objects.)

66.  Henry:
Hey! I want that one!

67.  Everyone:  Me too~

Me too~

68.  GIRLS ALL:  No! I saw it first!

(The Distractor laughs.)

(Throw the props in the air) (Students go get your props)

Jian, San, Woojin:  Hey~ We look amazing!

Ezra, Henry, Kai:  Yeah~~ This is how to do a concert!

Everyone: 
Now, let's make an amazing concert!

Everyone:  

Yeah~~~!
Let's make Everything Awesome~~~~!!!!

(Distractors, take off the black halo and scarf and join the dance)

🎵 Dance:  Everything is Awsome

(Students laugh and perform increasingly exaggerated “show-off” poses.)

(At the end, everyone looks toward the cross.)

Kai, Henry, Ezra:  We were amazing!

Jian, San, Woojin:  Is the cross lighting up?

(Swoosh~ and Look)

Everyone:  What?  Nothing?!

Everyone:  Why isn't it lighting up?

72.  Woojin, Jian, San:
Maybe we need an even bigger performance!

73. Distractor ALL:  Exactly!

74.  Yuri:  I'll sing the solo!

75.  Woojin:  No, I'll sing the solo!

76.  Ezra:  I can dance better!

77.  Henry:  Watch MY dance!

(They begin competing.)

78.  San, Jian, Woojin:  I can sing higher!

79. Henry, Kai:  I can dance faster!

80. Jian, San, Woojin:  I can jump higher!

(The competition becomes funny and chaotic.)

🎵  DANCE — I like to Move It.

(The Distractor encourages them)

91.  Distractor Rosie:  Bigger!

92.  Everyone:  Bigger!

93.  Distractor Yuri:  Louder!

94.  Everyone:  Louder!

95.  Distractor Arina:  More More More~!!!

(They all pose )

(Pause.)

(The cross remains dark.)

Teacher: (The Teacher enters quietly.)

Everyone: (Everyone freezes.)

Teacher:  What is going on?

San:  We're trying really hard!

Rosie:  We're singing!

Kai:  We're dancing!

Yuri:   We're making it exciting!

Teacher  I can see that.

(She looks at the cross.)

Teacher:  But what are you thinking about while you're doing it?

(The students look at one another.)

Everyone:  Um...

Teacher:  Are you thinking about God?

(Silence.)

Woojin:  I was thinking about my dance.

Ezra:  I was thinking about whether everyone was watching me.

Henry:
I wanted people to clap.

Arina:
I wanted to be the best singer.

(The Distractor slowly tries to sneak away.)

Teacher:  And what about you?

(Distractor freezes.)

Distractor ALL:  Us?

Teacher:
Yes. What have you made them think about? 

Distractor ALL:
Um........

Self love...

(Looks at audience.)

Distractor Rosie:
Our mission is to make them think only of themselves. 

Distractor Yuri, Arina:
Let them think: Me! Me! Me! 

Teacher:
Yes, you did. 

(The Distractor shrugs.)

117. Teacher:
Grade 1, come here. 
There's nothing wrong with beautiful music.

There's nothing wrong with dancing.

There's nothing wrong with doing your very best.

But praise worship isn't about making ourselves look amazing.

Jian, San, Woojin:
Then what is worship?

Teacher:
Worship is giving our hearts to God.

Kai:
So... it doesn't matter if people clap?

Teacher:
Not the most important thing.

Henry:
And it doesn't matter if I'm not the best?

Teacher:
Not the most important thing.

Ezra:
Then what matters?

Teacher:  Who are you doing it for?

(Pause.)

Teacher:
When we sing, we can sing for God.

When we dance, we can dance for God.

When we play an instrument, we can play for God.

And when our hearts are truly focused on Him...

(She looks at the Star.)

Teacher:
...then we are worshipping Him.

(The song ends softly.)

(A short silence.)

Jian Woojin San:
Look...

(The Cross begins to glow.)

Everyone:
WHOA!!!

(The Cross becomes brighter.)

Woojin:
It worked!

Henry, Ezra, Kai:
The Cross is shining!

Distractor ALL:
Oh, come on!

(The children cheer)

Distractor Rosie:
We tried everything!

Teacher:
You did.

Distractor Yuri:
Shiny things...

Everyone:
Yep!

Distractor Arina:
Trying to get everyone to show off. 

Everyone:
Yep!

Distractor Rosie:
And none of it worked?

Everyone: No, it did not!

Teacher:
Not when their hearts were focused on God.

Distractor Yuri:

Hm, our strategy won't work with these kids. 

Distractor Rosie: BIS students have learned to humble themselves before God. 

Distractor Arina: We are going to find other people who are full of pride and self-righteousness. 

Teacher:
All right, Grade 1.

Are you ready for your special concert? A true worship?

Everyone:
YES!

Teacher:
Then you need to remember—

Kai, Henry, Ezra, :
It's not about being the best!

Woojin, Jian, San:
It's not about getting applause!

Rosie, Yuri, Arina:
It's not about everyone looking at us!

Everyone:
It's about giving our hearts to God!

Teacher:
Exactly.

Ezra:
And that day, we discovered something very important.

San:

A beautiful performance can make people clap.

Kai:

A great song can make people smile.

Woojin:

But true worship comes from the heart.

(Students look toward the glowing Cross.)

Ezra:
And when their hearts were truly turned toward God...
...the Cross finally began to shine.
